Vineyard Region: Languedoc
Appellations:
Corbières
Vin de Pays de l’Hérault
Lodging: Bed & Breakfast on a wine estate
Close to the Mediterranean where the warm, dry air is scented with thyme and rosemary,
the 50-acre vineyard of Baronnie de Bourgade produces grenache, syrah, merlot, cabernet
sauvignon and cabernet franc. This year, Bourgade’s wine—marketed under the label “Les
3 Poules”—won first place for cabernet franc in the national “100 Best Vin de Pays”
competition.
Your stay at Bourgade is informal; you don’t have to be a wine connoisseur to join in. There
will be visits to vineyards and wine tastings, delicious lunches at local restaurants and a
visit to Pézenas, a medieval town with buildings dating back to the 16th century. Also
included with the vineyard tour: a grape picking or vine pruning lesson so you can learn
more about wine making. Evening meals include wine tastings.
Gilles de Latude and his English wife, Ruth Parker, run this splendid wine-making
property. Ruth is an interior designer with a thriving business renovating old houses in the
Languedoc. She also looks after the rental properties on the estate: three “self-catering”
cottages, as the British refer to them, and an elegant, self-sufficient loft connected to the
main chateau.
